DAC
SHINES AT ANNUAL NFL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
10/05/2008

The team that DAC sent this year to represent them at the annual
NFL Flag Football Regional Tournament sponsored by the NY Jets proved
itself to be quite a competitor. This team put together only 2 weeks
ago by Coach Sal Mancuso, meeting briefly for 2 short practices,
but that was enough for this talent laden team which consisted of
Ethan Geffen, Aaron Geffen, Jordan Mittenthal, Eddie O'Boyle, Nick
Mancuso and Travis Tatis to dominate their division.
The day started ominiously when they were seeded against the biggest
team in the tournament, but DAC would just play their game and not
be intimidated. On the first play of the game, speedster Travis
Tatis went down with a knee injury after a collision and was lost
for the rest of the day, leaving DAC with only 5 players which meant
no substitutions for the whole tournament. The next play Jordan
Mittenthal intercepted a pass and returned it to the goal line where
DAC scored on the next play. This was the turning point as DAC went
on to win 14-0. The day continued with multiple TD's thrown by the
accurate arm of Eddie O'Boyle to the speedy Ethan Geffen and Aaron
Geffen and if they weren't open, Eddie could always count on the
sure hands of both Jordan Mittenthal and Nick Mancuso to make something
happen, as they also had multiple TD's for the day. The defense
was strong also, with pressure on the QB causing interceptions caught
by Nick Mancuso, one which was run back for a TD.
After the first game, DAC mercied every team they played 28-0.
Not allowing any points made them the number one seed and put them
into the Championship game against the NY Panthers, who had won
this tournament 3 years in a row. The well oiled Panther machine,
consisting of many DAC players got off to an early lead and never
looked back as they defeated DAC and will represent the NY region
in the Florida tournament in November at Disney World for the now
fourth year in a row.
It was a great day and the kids can be proud that they finished
2nd out of the 17 teams from all over the region and if they had
to lose, it might as well be to their friends from the neighborhood
who play for Jimmy Gavalas's Panthers.
