The DAC Rangers took it to a new level when they earned the second
seed and made it all the way to the Championship Game at the NFL Regional
Tournament held at the NY Jets state of the art training facility
in Florham Park, NJ.
Led by they’re team Captain Sean Karol and Quarterback Anthony
Kavalis, the Rangers set a new NFL Flag standard when they mercy their
opening opponent in 11 plays and in under 5 minutes. Kavalis hit Karol
on the opening play for the score and the improbable was set in motion.
After going up 7-0, David Montes picked off an errant pass for a TD
and 14-O lead. Again the opponent threw an INT, but this time to Alec
Zimmern. Kavalis then hit wide out Aaron Geffen, who dashed down the
sidelines for a 21-0 lead. The stifling defense allowed no yardage
and the ball was returned to the Rangers and that’s when Kavalis
found Dennis Frame for the final TD of the game and the mercy was
complete. The DAC Ranger 28 PA Highlights 0.
In their second match up, the DAC boys continued to dominate and mercy
their opponent 29-0 on the very last play of the first half on a pass
from Kavalis to Karol. The scoring started on an end around run by
their RB, Travis Tatis, who outraced everyone down the sidelines.
Montes and Frame added scores to complete the blowout. DAC Rangers
29- Levittown Jets 0
The Rangers now found themselves in a position to earn the number
one seed. However, they were going up against a team that also had
two mercy wins. In this playoff atmosphere game, one team was moving
on and the other was going home. It didn’t take long to find
out when the opening drive led to an early 6-0 lead for the Rangers.
The Friars where starting to move the ball, but that’s when
Alec Zimmern made his second INT of the day and returned the ball
to the Friars 4 yard line. Kavalis wasted no time in finding his favorite
target Karol and the score move to 13-0. After another strike to Tatis,
the route was on. The DAC boys however needed the shut out to have
any hope for gaining the top seed. The Friars speedy running back
avoided the defense and it looked like the shutout was lost, but ML
David Schisler dove to stop them at the two yard line and preserve
the shutout. Geffen then closed out the scoring with a nifty run down
the sidelines. DAC Rangers 26- Friars 0.
The second seeded Rangers next test came in the Semi’s against
the St Anthony Saints, a perennial powerhouse at NFL Flag. The boys
did not back down and with a smothering defense led by a relentless
Frame, who sacked the QB five times and Montes, who shut down the
run, the Rangers were able to keep the Saints at bay. The Saints did
break through first and take a first half lead 6-0. In the second
half, The Ranger defense continued to dominate. Kavalis then found
Karol on two long passes, the last coming with 20 second left on the
clock and the win. DAC Ranger defeats Saint Anthony’s 13-6.
A long 10 hour day and the loss of star RB/CB Michael Rodriguez came
back to haunt the boys in the finals where they also lost both Schisler
and Geffen to various injuries. The NY Panthers, the defending and
three times National Champions neatly made it 6-0 after an interception
and a quick scoring strike. The Rangers then marched but failed to
score. On the very next play the Panther scored on a 45 yard run and
a 13- 0 lead. Against a team like the Panthers, this proved too much
and the ride had finally ended. NY Panthers 13, DAC Rangers 0.
This group of elite athletes from the DAC organization played together
under the leadership of coach, Keith Schisler. The competition included
20 teams from various states in the Northeast Region of the country.
The boys and their families had an excellent time and were proud to
represent the DAC organization. |
