BACK-2-BACK NFL FLAG NATIONAL TITLES FOR THE BOYS FROM QUEENS ESTABLISHES DAC AS A NATIONAL POWERHOUSE

"Going in we knew that there would be an X on our backs", said Jimmy Gavalas, coach of the DAC team at the NFL FLAG National Tournament held in Orlando Florida. Winning the National Title is not an easy task, defending it is even harder. Every team, every coach, and every player wanted to try to knock off last year's champ.

The first game of the day was against the NY Giants Regional winner. The DAC team had played them in the championship of last year's Indoor National Tournament played in the Giants Stadium Bubble. The DAC team beat them then and they opened their day in Orlando with a victory against them again. The score was 19-6. The dynamic duo, Yianni Gavalas and Eddie Rosicgno, tore apart the Giants defense. Tyler Ruiz opened all scoring by snatching a pass thrown in the middle of the endzone. The DAC defense led by Tiquan Garner, Travis Whitfield, and Pablo Vadles held the Giants to only one score.

In the second game of pool play, the Cardinals Regional winner played a very unique defense against the DAC Sharks. The DAC boys could not manage any points against this unique defense and they allowed the Cardinals to score a TD. The score at halftime was 6-0. After some halftime adjustments, the DAC Sharks managed a TD and an extra point to take the lead. From there on end, the defense locked down the Cardinals with Brian Kruger anchoring the secondary and the game ended at 7-6.

The last game before the playoff round was against the 49ers. They were the most athletic group of the pack. Their size and speed was superior to most of the teams at the tournament. On the first play from scrimmage, middle linebacker Yianni Gavalas, intercepted a pass and ran it in for a score and an early lead. That deflated the strong 49ers and the DAC Sharks went on to win 25-6. The Sharks got excellent play out of Sal Vincenty and Brian Kruger along with the rest of their teammates to move on to the playoff round as the number one seed.

After gaining the bye as the top seed of the tournament, the DAC Sharks were slated to play the Giants team again. The Giants team had just won a thrilling overtime game against the Ravens. The DAC Sharks we ready for the onslaught that the Giants may bring after winning their first round playoff game in a very exciting fashion. The score remained scoreless and then the Dynamic Duo of Yianni and Eddie took over. Brian Kruger and Tiquan Garner played very big on the defensive side of the ball. The game ended 19-0 in favor of the DAC Sharks.

While the Sharks were making their way the championship game, the 49ers were doing the same thing. They disposed of the Cardinals in their semi final game to advance to another meeting against the boys from Queens. The DAC coaches were not comfortable in playing the 49ers - they were athletic, well coached, and they had the revenge factor, they wanted another shot at the DAC Sharks.

After being announced in front of the crowd seated in the bleachers of the "ESPN TV FIELD", the DAC Sharks took first possession of the ball. They drove down the field on four plays to take a 7-0 lead. Yianni Gavalas hooked up with Eddie Roscigno and Brian Kruger on the quick drive. After stopping the 49ers, the DAC Sharks once again marched down the field with crisp passes from Yianni Gavalas to Eddie Roscigno and Tiquan Garner for a 13-0 lead. The 49ers were once again stifled on offense by the great efforts of Pablo Valdez and Travis Whitfield at the rusher position. With seconds remaining in the half, Yianni Gavalas hit Eddie Roscigno, Sal Vincenty and Tyler Ruiz for yet another first half score. The score at halftime was 19-6. The second half continued the same way as the first half, the DAC defense confusing the 49ers offense while the Sharks offense being just too much for the 49ers defense to handle. The score at the end of the game was 33-6. The highlights of the day and championship game will be shown on ESPN some time in December. The date has not yet been announced.

The DAC team has accomplished an incredible feat by winning BACK-TO-BACK NATIONAL TITLES. By winning this year, the DAC name has established itself as a national powerhouse
